Reflection for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Sunday

The Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference transferred the Solemnity of the Assumption to this Sunday. This Solemnity has been part of the Church’s tradition for centuries.

Fr Russell Pollitt SJ suggests in this reflection that there are two ways of seeing Mary – as one far removed from and not like us or as a woman like us, facing the joys and struggles of human existence. He says that there are 5 things worth reflecting on this week as we contemplate this Solemnity.

Join Fr Russell as he reflects on the readings of the Assumption.

You can find the texts that this reflection is based on in your bible, or simply just hover your mouse over the following references and the texts will also appear:

Revelation 11:19,12:1-6,10; Psalm 44; 1 Corinthians 15:20-26 & Luke 1:39-56.
