LISTEN: Reflection for the 2nd Sunday of Advent — Year A

Today marks the Second week of Advent in the liturgical calendar, a time in which we eagerly await the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and king and the second coming. In both the Old Testament and the New Testament Readings for today, we are alerted to the coming Messiah. John the Baptist urges those he was preaching to, to repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. In a time where we face many challenges as a country and a society, it can be difficult to keep a sense of hope alive but that is the invitation to us at Advent.
