LISTEN: Reflection for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time — Year C

On this Nineteenth Sunday of the Year Jesus gives us instructions – so to speak – for the “flight of life”. Jesus tells us what the essentials are if the unexpected happens. Or, perhaps, in another way, Jesus asks as where our treasure is, where are hearts are, as this determines how prepared we really are for whatever life throws at us. Jesus knows that life is fragile and therefore he wants us to be prepared. Jesus wants us to live life to the full now, he doesn’t want us to be short-changed.

There are three reflections, for the flight of life, that are offered in this week’s readings: i) who informs the decisions/choices we make? ii) how our fears might hold us back and iii) how being faithful to God, first, opens up the fullness of life to us all.
