Weekly Reflection from CPLO and the Jesuit Institute Week of 11 December 2017

by Paulina French “Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.” (Winston Churchill)

Christmas celebrates God’s gift of God’s own self to us. God who is love, loving us in a way that we can understand. God comes as a baby, utterly vulnerable, dependant on us – his creation. Jesus comes to us in weakness, without pomp or ceremony. He lives for most of his life in quiet obscurity. Yet by sharing in depth our lives, he redeems them. It is not only at the moment of the passion, but by being born human that Jesus redeems our human experience.

this Christmas, as we contemplate you in the nativity, let our hearts be filled with your tender love for one another.
May we see you in each person we meet, created in love by you.
Give us the ability to love unconditionally as you do.
