The Mindfulness Toolbox Workshop: Twenty-two people participated in this online workshop which was led by Russell Pollitt SJ and Gillian Hugo. The day was spent looking at different ways that one can become still and mindful and included a number of guided practices like learning to use the breath, meditation, listening, creating a vision board and journaling.

Deepening in Prayer: For eight weeks, a pilot programme called “Deepening in Prayer” ran with a small group of students. Some students were from around Johannesburg and one from Germany. The group met on Tuesdays at 18:00 via Whatsapp video calls. The pilot programme was a success and the students loved it because it gave them an opportunity to freely express their views on certain things and helped them deepen their relationship with God. At times, tests, exams and load shedding got in the way and so it took longer than anticipated.

Upcoming Events

  • Are you a mature Christian?
  • Do you give regular time to your own prayer?
  • Are you in your own spiritual direction?
  • Do you have a desire to accompany others in their relationship with God?
If so, you may be called to the ministry of spiritual direction. This is a ministry of listening to people, helping them to pray and to discern God’s action and invitation in their lives.
The Jesuit Institute offers the opportunity for intensive training to people who have the gift and call to be spiritual directors. The Spiritual Direction Training (SDT) takes place over three years, predominantly online but with two in-person modules.

Applications for our next course, starting in March 2021, close on 31 October 2020.
