Institute Connects — February 2021
Staff retreat/workshop: The staff of the Institute began the year with a retreat led by Melissa Van Biljon at the Origins Retreat Centre in the Cradle of Humankind. This was followed by two days reflecting on our work and looking towards the future.
PGT Online: The Jesuit Institute offered Prayer Guide Training online for the first time over the last two weekends in January. This will be followed by a practicum online Week of Guided Prayer in February. 19 people participated, many of whom will be part of the upcoming Spiritual Direction Training.
30-Day Retreat at St Lucia: Matthew Charlesworth SJ and Nonto Mhlongo journeyed to St Lucia Retreat Centre at the start of January and directed the 30-day Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius Loyola to a group of 10 Missionaries of Africa (M.Afr) and a diocesan priest from the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein. The retreatants came from India, Tanzania, Kenya, the DRC, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Uganda. The Missionaries of Africa are currently at St Joseph’s Theological Institute, Cedara, where they are studying theology through the University of KwaZulu-Natal in preparation for ministry.
