Today we remember All the Saints. In our first reading from the Book of Revelation, we see a scene of the ‘multitude of saints’ worshipping in heaven, reminiscent of the Sanctus that we sing during the Mass. In our second reading from the first letter of St John we hear how we are already children of God but during our lives we are called to grow and become more like God, to be more holy, just as the Saints before us were. In this homily we reflect on this call to holiness and see the practical advice that Jesus offers us in todays Gospel, in the form of the beatitudes, to do so. The importance of humility and gratitude in relation to God is suggested to be the first step on the path to holiness that we must all make if we are to live out our universal vocation to be holy, to be one with the Saints with God.
