Jesus is still in the Temple this week – about to tell another parable to rebut an attack made on his authority. Last week we heard the first – the two sons sent into the vineyard to work and they say yes and no but don’t do what they were said they would – and this week we hear the second – the householder who plants a vineyard and sends first servants and then his son to collect the rent – they beat the servants and kill the son.

We can learn three lessons from this parable: i) something about rejection; ii) something about the fertility of the soil of our hearts and iii) something about how we can be prophetic.
