Lenten Prayer Reflections by Ron Boudreaux SJ
“Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows ” (Luke 12:6-7 )
When we consider how insignificant we are in a limitless universe, the idea that God notices us is striking. Not only that God notices but that God is concerned for our well-being. And was Luke really speaking figuratively when he says that God has counted all the hairs on my head? But the truth is that God created each of us and knows all there is to know about us. And God loves us as we are because he created us as we are; why should I fear such a God who loves me? Through the ages, God has revealed to us that we are all responsible for one another and for making this place, a better place for all humanity.
Lord of all goodness, I continue to fail in my quest to be like you.
I continue to betray my brothers and sisters and thus betray you.
How can it be that, with all you have given me, I continue to disappoint? Yet, you continue to bless me as one of your beloved children.
I ask for the grace to desire to be like you, Lord Jesus.
