Lenten Prayer Reflections by Ron Boudreaux SJ
Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. (Lk 7:37-38)
The old saying, “what goes around comes around” contains a certain amount of truth. There seems to be some cosmic equalizer of which we should all be aware: a sense that what I do to others could well be done to me. Hence the Golden Rule: do as you would be done by. But at a deeper level, God desires that we give up sowing seeds of destruction by the warning that better behaviour is expected of us. Someday, each of us will have to account for the life we have lived. Hopefully we will all be prepared to justify before God the actions of our lives.
Good and gracious God, teach us to live in peace, never returning evil for evil but rather good for evil.
I cannot change the world, Lord, but help me to change myself so that your righteousness may thrive in me.
